Good textbook for an OVERVIEW of Research Methods

I received the 8th edition. If you are expecting a good book on how to do research from idea to completion, this isn't the book for you. This is an OVERVIEW. Now if you wanted to know the essentials of research methods, then this book is one of the most easily comprehended, well-organized books. Patten breaks everything down by easily referenced topics grouped in sections. In the 8th ed. there are websites listed in one of the appendices, some of the addresses have been updated since 2008. I don't know if the 9th ed. reflects those changes since they sent me the wrong edition, but if you are going to reference those sites you might want to make sure you have the updated information first.

Great introduction that's user friendly

This is a great introduction of research methods. I liked that it was simple and very straightforward explanations of the basics. However, as grateful as I was for the easy read 1-2 pages per topic, there were times that it failed to address the concepts adequately and could've used an extra page or so of further explanation.

This is the quintessential textbook for an introductory research methods course. The chapters are all less than two pages long, filled with a lot of good information that is not dry and uninteresting to read. I teach applied statistics, data analysis, and quantitative methods and find myself referring back to this book time and time again. There is no methods textbook I would recommend higher.

This a very good, technical book. A real engineer's look at car dynamics, well presented and explained. The problems the author presents at the end of each chapter re-enforces your understanding of the text ..... all very "Open" university style.

Great engineering and vehicle dynamics book!

Great book, kind of in the same category as "Race Car Vehicle Dynamics," but without such a racing orientation. Great explanation on the dynamics of tires. Slip angles, where tire judder comes from, and the like. Can get pretty mathematical in it's explanations, but since that was what I was looking for (mathematics explains everything) that part was fine. It has a great explanation of roll centers, withe the accompaning diagrams of jacking and the forces and their directions. Really helped me understand that complex subject.
A MUST HAVE FOR ANY AUTOMOBILE OR RACECAR ENGINEER!!

An amazing book. I've only had a chance to leaf through but it is immensely descriptive. Lots of sketches, figures of sedimentary environments, photos, TONS of explanation, etc... I really wish this book were available when I was a student - I might have liked sed. rocks a lot better. This book is opening my eyes. I highly recommend it as a starter or very advanced read.

THE Book for Sedimentology

If you are studying geology at the undergraduate or graduate level this book should definitely be part of your library. It is completely descriptive when it comes to sedimentary processes and environments in terms of the text and diagrams. Each chapter is written by authors who are experienced in the subject being discussed such as: Volcanic environments, lakes, glacial sediments, shallow clastic seas, etc. As a student studying under one of these authors, he stated that "this book is still regarded as one of the most cited resources in subject of sedimentology."

Book came fast and as describe, very little signs of use and/or abuse and was in very good shape. Haven't noticed any writing or highlighting in it, so that's nice too. Excellent book on sedimentary environments, has already proven useful while working as a petroleum geologist.

Over-rated

While this is an interesting compilation of angels and demons in art, it is incomplete. There are several key pieces of art that are completely missing and deemed not worthy of mentioning by the author or editors.
The images are poorly reproduced, and so small as to leave me wondering if I was able to interperet the art for myself, or just left be told what I'm supposed to think it means. The orginization of the chapters is well done, even though it roughly follows the biblical presentation of such.

Within seconds of opening the cover, I felt as if it was writing down to the reader. The inane descriptors targeting key points in the presented art work are reminiscent of a children's television show presenting colours and alphabet to pre-school children.

If you are looking for a Cliff's notes book for art interpretation, or a religious education course, this might be a passable resource for one term paper or reference for further research. I personally wouldn't use it as a resource for teaching or writing beyond those means.

If there was a review higher than five stars, this book should get it! The cover alone deserves five stars! This book is the single most perfect book I've seen on angels! It's wonderful! The artwork, the explanations of the different categories of angels; it's all perfect! If you're interested in angels, this is a must have for any collection!

I first checked this book out at the library. No special reason. I was captivated by the wonderful descriptions of paintings that I had not seen before. Except maybe many years ago in Art history classes. I so loved the book that I purchased it!!! I also ordered another one in the Guide to Imagery series sight unseen.

Great Start to a New Series!

I really enjoyed this book. It's set in the small town of Middlemarch where the men outnumber the women. The town council (made up of panther shifters) thought of having a "love train" bring women to their town and participate in a singles dance. The idea was that some of the young men would find a mate and settle down, thus not causing any more hijinks that would bring attention to them.

Saber is the the older brother to his four siblings causing the trouble so at the dance he doesn't expect to find a woman who makes his panther purr. Little does he know the woman, Emily has a lot of emotional baggage she has been trying to work through and only planned to attend the dance for a one night stand. Emily's deceased husband inflicted a lot of emotional and verbal abuse so she thinks she is done with men until she meets Saber.

I really enjoyed the story idea, I thought it was a fresh way for a shifter to meet their mate. I instantly felt the spark between Saber and Emily and was rooting for their happily ever after. I also liked Saber's younger brother's, I can't wait to read their stories.

The was a pesky reporter that is nosing around because of "alleged" panther sightings and she is trying to get proof but other than that not much comes from her part in the story. Perhaps more will come of it in later installments of the series. I really want to know if she finds out the truth and exposes the shifters or something else happens with her.

I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more in this series.

After emerging from her chrysalis of painful memories, Emily Scarlet sets out to prove she has what it takes to attract a man and experience one perfect night of passion in this captivating paranormal romance.

Saber Mitchell’s brothers are out of control, so he hopes to get them mated and settled and the reader can’t help but get caught up in the story as Saber’s plan goes a little off course when he spots Emily. The chemistry is a hot bed of intoxicating passion and the sex scenes are scorching but this relationship has a problem, due to Emily’s past and personal demons, she’s determined to keep it at the sex only stage which causes a bit of emotional angst. These strong compelling characters captivate readers while the well written, fast paced and smooth flowing plot draws readers in.

Shelley Munro has created another sexy feline world with a small community setting that makes a perfect backdrop for these shifters and it has a bit of a fun and promising hook as Middlemarch has a shortage of women but they have come up with a way to change that and I can’t wait for my next visit to Middlemarch to find out who meets their mate next.

Smoking hot Kitty!

I absolutely loved this book! It's the beginning book of the Middlemarch book series by Shelley Munro. Yes, it's been redone and spruced up, it even has a new chapter. Plus, I think she's added more than that to it, so now it's even better! I loved the fact of the Love Train bringing females to a town where there are too many males. Saber is a black panther and his brothers are out of control. So he and the other members of the Feline Shifter Council decide to have a dance bringing females from out of town so the younger males can find mates and settle down. Only Sabers in for a surprise, a surprise by the name of Jo (or should I say Emily). Ms. Munro writes with a sense of humor, you'll find your mouth twitching or out and out smiling while reading her books. You just can't help it! Recommend to all you shifter lovers out there! If you like smoking hot shifters, steamy love scenes, with a good plot written with a sense of humor you'll love her writing too. Not sure how long she'll have it on KU, so don't wait too long to read and decide if you want to buy it for your personal collection. It's a great series!

I recently returned from having spent 3 weeks in Ireland. It is hard to avoid the "Celtic Spirit" no matter where you go. From Belfast, Northern Ireland to Dublin (Gaelic spoken in many areas) you are challenged by the spirit of the green countryside.

I became interested in Celtic design while visiting Trinity University in Dublin where I was exposed to the Book of Kells and manuscript drawings that were so vivid in an ancient book (800 AD). I recently visited the National Gallery of Art in D.C. and found this book which has wonderful Celtic designs. It even assists you in step by step drawing of some of the Celtic ornamentation (including exerpts from the Book of Kells). I could not have asked for a better direction than this book

I cannot sing the praises of this book enough. I have seen many books on Celtic ornament in the past, but this one surpasses all. It has excellent production, with wonderful colour plates. The book gives a history of Celtic ornament. It looks at each of the major design elements in detail. You can see from the wonderfully clear and large drawings how the designs are made up. Here you will find spirals, triskels, interlace, tree of life, labyrinths, animals and much more. If you have ever bought other books on how to draw Celtic designs and given up, I urge you to buy this book. You will succeed with this one. fantastic reference

I loved eferything about this book: the photographs, the history of the designs, the symbolism and the actual designs. i will use this book as an inspirarion for other designs in different media such as rug hooking and weaving.
