A clear, insightful springboard to understanding business.

Seeing the Big Picture teaches the reader how to assess and reason about the financial present and future of a business — to see its big picture. It teaches this by exploring a model of business health and using that model to interpret example financial statements. This sounds dry and technical. However, the model places the highest importance on organisational culture and leadership. Furthermore, story-telling and examples illustrate every concept. The author's motivating argument is that:

1. The most effective employees and leaders act in the interest of the big picture.
2. Company leadership will entrust decision making power to employees who can see the big picture.

The book is couched in plain, simple language and is perfectly organised. I wouldn’t change a thing. I also genuinely appreciated the absence of rubbish. I didn’t have to suffer the author’s ego for even a second. I could learn without friction or frustration.

The only danger is that a reader may mistake this simplicity for a lack of depth and read without thinking. The upside is that the book is so short and simple that a slow, in-depth reading is still possible in good time.

The second half on financial statements is slightly more tedious. However, the author is well aware of this and offers quick run downs (e.g. The Income Statement in a Matter of Minutes) followed by optional in-depth explorations (e.g. The Income Statement in About 30 Minutes). The second half of the book could even be left as a reference for when actually attempting to read financial statements.

All in all, the clarity, conciseness and low price add up to an incredible return on time and money spent for non-finance readers. The author suggests to continue learning about business after reading the book. I have been reading and taking courses on corporate finance. This book has provided an excellent basis for learning the principles of accounting and finance. It is the best place to start. In fact, learning from other sources just makes me appreciate this exceptionally clear book even more.

A Must-Have Reference Book

I hate math. I hate company financial discussions. But I like this book. It is as if Cope is in my head, answering my unspoken questions. Just when he explains something containing a financial term I've forgotten, he inserts a simple definition of that very term. I love the practical story of Autin's Cycle Shop, too. It is told in stages, with each stage inserted into the text to illustrate the point Cope is making at the moment. Oh yes, it is written in layman's language, or I wouldn't have ever bothered reading it. This book is a must-have reference book for your desk--an illuminating and confidence-building cheat sheet for all of us non-financial folks.

Mr. Cope's book was one of the top business books I've ever read. His informative and direct writing style was easy to understand, yet increased my overall business acumen drastically. As a young professional, the concepts I've taken away from this read will help me gain credibility and a new level of business savvy with the executives in my company. This book gave me the knowledge and confidence to speak up in business meetings.....even when the top company executives are present. Just like the book cover states, I feel like I've gotten an MBA education over the weekend!

Este es un clásico de la geometría fractal,una gran obra de mandelbrot, la critica afirma que mandelbrot nunca fue considerado un gran matemático digamos al estilo de poincare,si se puede decir que fue un gran sino un grande en investigacion , ya que la goemetria fractal es algo que data del siglo XIX, pero fue mandelbrot quien dijo esto es una nueva ciencia,y para sorpresa de los grandes en matematica que solo observaron los fractales como mera figuras irregulares , esto fue una revelacion, el libro no es nada abstracto tampoco tecnico , pretende ser y lo es tan solo un ensayo cientifico,surge la pregunta puede ser la naturaleza enteramente fractal? la geometria clasica de euclides y sus axiomas a demostrado ser una limitante en el caso de la relatividad de einstein donde se utilizo la geometria no-euclideana una noveda para la época, asi mandelbrot nos ilustra que un suelo plano , no puede ser totalmente plano a escala microscopicas, obsevando todo vemos que esa forma irregular esta mas en la naturaleza de los que creemos, lo aconsejo este libro mucho para el publico en general, la pocas oagina que he leido me dicen que lo que se trata aqui es un tema fundamental de la ciencia de esto tiempos.

Entertaining and enlightening Guide to Pipe Smoking!

My 1965 published paperback copy of this book is both enjoyable and enlightening! I found the author's style to be very pleasurable to read. Weber goes into the history of the pipe, the types of tobacco, and the (then newly released) surgeon general's report on tobacco. If you enjoy reading about pipe smoking this book has a great view of the hobby from 45 years ago, which in fact has not changed that much over the years.

Used this book to help prep for SAT Math section along with other books. This was by far my favorite because of the practice sets which helped me review all the main concepts. I especially liked how it had detailed solutions for all practice tests. Would recommend to others.
